Most of what I read and watch is speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror), although I do occasionally foray into mainstream fiction as well. Some of my favorite authors include (in no particular order):

David Brin (the Uplift Series and the Practice Effect)
Tom Clancy (every other Jack Ryan novel, especially Without Remorse)
Jack L. Chalker
David Eddings (the Elenium series and Tamuli series)
Stephen King (particularly the Dark Tower series)
Harry Turtledove (primarily the Worldwar series and Guns of the South)
Neal Stephenson
Stephen R. Donaldson (only the Gap Saga)
Harry Harrison (primarily the West of Eden Saga, Deathworld Trilogy, Hammer and the Cross series and Stainless Steel Rat series)
Douglas Adams (only the Hitchhiker's Trilogy)
Edwin A. Abbott (Flatland)
Steven Gould (Jumper and Wildside)
Anne Rice
Larry Niven
J.R.R Tolkien (The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings)
Michael Crichton (particularly Sphere)
Jean M. Auel (Clan of the Cave Bear)
Tove Jansson (the Moomintroll series)
Terry Goodkind (the Sword of Truth series)
Fred Saberhagen
Piers Anthony (particularly the first three Xanth novels and the Apprentice Adept series)
Leo Frankowski (the Adventures of Conrad Stargard series)
Orson Scott Card (only Ender's Game)

The following is a list of my top five favorite movies:
                Blade Runner, The Director's Cut
Terminator and Terminator 2
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Back to the Future Series (I really like time travel)
Jurassic Park
Some honorable mentions include: all of the Monty Python films, Highlander, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wizards, the Star Wars Saga, The Sixth Sense and Jaws.

Sadly, I don't do much fiction reading anymore. Too much to do on the Internet (but I do a lot of research and news updating there).
